The 2010 Texas State Fair

The Texas State Fair starts this weekend here in Dallas, Texas. It’s always a big to-do around here — definitely one of the perks of living in North Texas. It’s always a treat to go down and see Big Tex. To get you in the mood for this year’s fair, here are some pics from my 2010 visit:

Big Tex

Big Tex!

Cable Cars

It was incredibly crowded when we went. The Texas Tech vs. Baylor game had just gotten out, and there were a lot of Red Raiders wandering around.

I love the cable cars at the Texas State Fair. Yes, those are ads on the bottom.

Car Show

They put corn dogs on a stick. Why not trucks?

Evidently, Ford builds robots now, too. This one just stood there doing nothing, though. No comment.

Ferris Wheel

The Texas Star ferris wheel, the tallest in North America.

The Dallas Skyline from atop the Texas Star. I never tire of looking at this view. Dallas has one of the best skylines in the world.

The Texas Star from the midway at sunset.

Greenhouse

Awesome model railroad going through an elaborate garden. It was enormous.

Teenage Robot Zydeco Gators, stuffed with peat moss with the guitarist wearing a rasta hat.

Fair Park

Fair Park in Dallas has some of the best Art Deco architecture around.

Fair Park after dark

I love Fair Park after dark. I was tired and the picture’s slightly blurry, but it captures the end of a long day at the fair.
